Mini-Marathon weekend

Apologies for the lack of restraint in picking pictures this weekend, but there was a lot of fun to be had this week. Despite Emily being in Philadelphia for a conference, David and I had a nice weekend together centered around the 34th running of the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, kicking off a month of fun events in Indianapolis.

AAM 2009

Emily and her boss Sarah headed to Philadelphia for the annual AAM (American Association of Museums) conference. We took some cool field trips, saw some excellent museums (Emily cried, like, 18 times at the Museum of Art), had some excellent food (thank goodness I brought Alka-Seltzer), and did actually attend some very informative sessions. There is a lot of history in this city, and we barely scratched the surface of all there is to do, but after five consecutive mornings of Hampton Inn breakfast and not getting enough green food to eat, we were both really, really ready to come home

Neck is red, legs are sore, garden is planted, fingernails are still muddy, cookies are baked, body is tired.  Happy, glorious weekend!

Spring Fest 2009

We started the week unusually exhausted (even for us)... like, in bed by 8:30pm kind of exhausted.  Howeever, as the week wore on, even though it was mostly rainy and cold, we still got happier.

Saturday morning we met Jon and Christine up at Purdue for the Cancer Challenge 5K, and thankfully it was beautiful weather, warm and sunny.  We toured campus, did lots of activities (sponsored by the various schools at Purdue) and enjoyed being outside and with good friends.

Sunday was rainy again, but we managed to stay cheery, and as Sunday comes to a close, we think we had a pretty good week.  Next weekend?  Sunny and uppers 70s.  Garden, look out.  You're next.

Easter shout out to all our Peeps

What a lovely weekend!  It took us until Saturday to fully recover from last weekend, but the chilly spring sun was enough to lure us out of the house and into the yard for a bit.  Movie night, lots of cooking and baking, a nice Sunday dinner with Anna, Joyce, and Rita, and way too much candy rounded out a happy couple of days.

We're making great strides with potty training and realized that we did not throw away a single diaper this weekend (and that's because we didn't need any, not because we're saving them).  While this may be TMI for some of you, it's a hot topic in our house right now, and the cost savings alone is worth a mention.

At any rate, Happy Easter to all!  Make sure your Cadbury creme eggs don't all disappear in one day.  And never, ever give jelly beans to a child that you want to be quiet in church.  It doesn't work.

Extending the Weekend

Though Emily had to depart on Sunday afternoon, Chris and David stayed in Austin until Tuesday. An Easter Egg hunt, trips to various parks, and some Play-doh kept them all busy (as well as a rubber band to the face), and again thank goodness for the many entertainment options at O'Hare airport. if you have to fly the horrifically unfriendly skies, at least you get to see some cool Legos and a dinosaur along the way.
Jaysun & Louisa's Wedding

After 47 bazillion years of dating, Jaysun (Chris's high school buddy) and Louisa (his sweet and lovely fiancee) finally got married at University Methodist Church on the UT campus (during which David announced -- fairly loudly -- that "his belly was full, but he's not going to throw up"). Their reception at The French Legation in Austin could not have been more beautiful...the weather was stellar, the bride was gorgeous, and we spent a bit of time with some old friends. It was a good day for flowers and cake.

So we've been doing quite a bit of whining about being sick and tired (literally) of stupid Indiana winter, so this trip to Texas was the shot in the arm that we truly needed. Emily and Chris finally got to take their zipline tour of Hill Country (we tried a few years ago but got rained out, and 100 feet up in a tree, hanging from metal wires, is not where you want to be during a thunderstorm). We visited a new downtown park and were keenly reminded of just why we love Austin so much...parks, green space, dirty Tex-Mex restaurants, fiddlehead ferns for sale in the grocery stores, recycling bins, and hippies abound...
A Hoppy Week

Lots of things that are round

Whether it was the pizza plate, the bike wheels (used to burn off the pizza) or the skates on the roller girls, we had a roundabout kind of week. Gradually we're warming up, we're getting out, and do we ever have a three-year-old...
